MASc student wins first place prize.

MASc student, Mr. Markus Jesswein, supervised by Dr. Jinyuna Liu, won the first place and a cash prize of $500 for the 2018 the Southern Ontario Section of the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS-SOS) Graduate Student Competition held on January 17, 2018. This competition had representatives from five universities in the GTA: Toronto, York, Waterloo, Western, and Ryerson. Each representative had 15 minutes to orally present their research on topics in geotechnical engineering to an audience of professionals and academics. Markus’s presentation was titled “A Statistical Analysis on the Axial Capacity of Piles in Ontario Soils.” He shared his correlation study between the load-carrying capacity of driven piles and several soil measurements. Markus’s presentation was recorded by video, and it will be used to represent the CGS-SOS in the national competition.
